Personal DevelopmentIntern Program

In close proximity to Washington College (Chestertown, MD), Chesapeake College (Wye Mills, MD), Anne Arundel Community College (Arnold, MD) and numerous colleges in Dover and Wilmington, DE, Church Hill Theatre is ideal for theatre internships. Students desiring intensive, hands-on, day-to-day experience in theatre can engage in a practicum that will provide working experience to supplement their educational curriculum in theatre. With a knowledgeable and experienced paid and volunteer staff serving as mentors, and a fully-equipped facility with state-of-the-art lighting equipment, scenic and costume areas, students will learn within an engaging and supportive environment.

Interns may be involved in one or more of the areas of concentration listed below. The program's advisor will work with the intern to develop an individualized program that best meets the needs of both the intern and the Theatre.

  • Technical/Production: Stage management; production management; set design, construction and scene painting and decor properties and costumes; sound and lighting.
  • Direction/Teaching: Direction/assistant direction; dramaturgy; teaching: summer camp production; project/program development.
  • Theatre Administration: Public relations and marketing/development; grant writing and fundraising; special events coordination; front of house management; audience development and enrichment; financial management.

We most commonly use our interns in the position(s) of Assistant Directors/Theatre Generalist for our summer youth drama workshop, Green Room Gang.
